CT Scan
Producing images sharper and more detailed than any other unit available today, TAMC's 64-slice CT scanner is a super-fast, state-of-the-art diagnostic tool. Precise 3-D scans can be done in just seconds.
For our patients, the benefits include:
- decreased exposure time to radiation
- claustrophobic-friendly design that no longer requires the entire body to be enclosed in the scanning chamber for abdominal scans
- radiation dosages that automatically adjust to each person's body size and tissue thickness, including special dosing features for pediatric patients
- the capability to perform procedures, such as a colonoscopy, virtually - in a non-invasive way.
Radiation Oncology
The most advanced radiation therapy treatment currently available for cancer patients is now offered at TAMC thanks to the addition of a new multi-leaf linear accelerator (LINAC). The LINAC provides more treatment options to more people and can be upgraded with future advancements. Combined with existing orthovoltage equipment and a new CT simulator that significantly reduces treatment planning time, the LINAC establishes TAMC's Radiation Oncology services as a comfortable, patient-friendly center of excellence for cancer treatment.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
The addition of a fixed-base MRI will provide on-site services to complement current CT scanning. This new claustrophobic-friendly unit is the #1 preferred MRI in the United States and is the only American College of Radiology accredited fixed-base unit in Aroostook County. Ours are the only technologists in Aroostook County who are nationally certified in MRI.
Nuclear Medicine
A new Toshiba dual-head nuclear camera provides highly detailed images in almost half the time compared to other commonly used cameras. Additional diagnostic and treatment rooms have been added to the department, as well as the convenience of having cardiac stress room in the department.
Specialty Services
Several imaging services were grouped together to ease patient transition when multiple tests are required. Conveniently located in one suite is:
- mammography
- bone densitometry
- ultrasound
- digital fluoroscopy
The new digital fluoroscopy equipment will reduce testing time and eliminate the need for costly retakes during body organ imaging and the addition of a third room for general x-ray equipment will reduce patient wait times. |
