Every effort is made to ensure that family and friends have ample opportunity to visit their loved ones in the hospital. If you have any questions regarding the visiting hours below, please ask the nursing staff or call our Patient Services Advocate at ext. 4394.
Visiting Hours
Medical/Surgical and Progressive Care Units Visitors are welcome at any time, but please note that the main lobby doors are locked from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. (However, the Emergency Department entrance is always open.)
Special Care Unit Visitation to SCU is restricted to immediate family and clergy as designated by the patient. Those visitors are welcome at any time, but to promote rest and recovery, please limit stays to 10 minutes per hour. Exceptions to this policy must be approved by the patient's nurse.
Women and Children's Health Unit Visitors are welcome at any time, but visitation to pediatric patients, other than the patient's parents, is restricted to the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Children under the age of 12 years old are restricted from going into the nursery.
Visiting Policy Because our patients' recovery is our priority, there are some policies we ask visitors to observe to help us maintain a high level quality of care:
- Please, no more than 2 visitors per patient at a time.
- Keep visits brief and positive.
- Respect all of our patients' privacy.
- Do not bring latex balloons into the hospital.
- If your loved one is sharing a room with another patient, be mindful of the noise level your visit creates.
Please note that food and nutrition products brought to patients from outside sources must be approved by the patient's nursing staff to ensure that the food item(s) is allowed on the patient's diet. Please bring food items just prior to when it will be eaten as we cannot be responsible for the storage, preparation, and service of food from outside sources. Microwaves are available.
While You Wait
Visitors waiting for a patient to come out of surgery or a procedure are encouraged to wait in designated areas located on each nursing unit and throughout the hospital. We understand that waiting for a loved one can be difficult; please, do not hesitate to ask a member of our staff if there is any way we can help make your wait more tolerable. Our Ellie Crouse Hospitality Suites, located near Med/Surg, are comfortable rooms each equipped with a telephone, television, table, chairs, and a couch - perfect for times when there is a significant wait or for larger groups of visitors.
Cafeteria and Coffee Shop
Visitors are welcome to dine in the cafeteria from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; however, only salad bar and snack items are available between 1:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. The cafeteria is located on the bottom floor.
The Coffee Shop is located just off the main lobby (in the hallway next to the gift shop). There, you will find vending machines filled with sandwiches, soda, coffee, and snacks. The Coffee Shop is always open.
Wish N' Well Gift Shop
Our gift shop is located near the main entrance lobby and is well stocked with gift items, snacks, newspapers, and TAMC, Inc. items. The shop is staffed by volunteers and is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Depending on volunteer availability, the shop is occasionally open in the evenings. (To confirm that the gift shop is open, call ext. 4038.)
Public Telephones
With the patient's permission, visitors may use the telephones in patient rooms, but there are public phones available in the main lobby and Emergency Department as well. For more privacy, there are phones in each of the Ellie Crouse Hospitality Suites located just off the Med/Surg unit.
Restrooms
Please refrain from using patient restrooms. There are several handicap accessible public restrooms located throughout the hospital. If you need assistance, any hospital staff member will be glad to direct you to the nearest restroom facility.
Smoking Policy
To promote a healthy and safe environment for all of our patients, visitors, and staff, we prohibit the use of all tobacco products (cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and smokeless tobacco) on all TAMC, Inc-owned or leased properties. We understand that this policy may be hardest on visitors who smoke as they may be under extreme stress due to the illness of a loved one, and thus may depend even more on tobacco.
We want our visitors to be as comfortable as possible. Trained staff can assist visitors who are struggling with nicotine withdrawal while at TAMC; we also have a smoking cessation program for those interested in quitting tobacco use. Contact Educational Services at education@tamc.org, or ext. 4165 for more information.
Patient Services and Guest Relations
Our Patient Services Advocate and Guest Relations Representative are here to help families with any unresolved questions, special needs, problems, or complaints. Do not hesitate to contact our Patient Services Advocate at advocate@tamc.org, or ext. 4394 or our Guest Relations Representative at guestservice@tamc.org, or ext. 4142. If you have an urgent concern during nonbusiness hours, please let a member of the patient's care team know.
