There is a telephone at each patient's bedside. For local calls, dial "9" first and then the number you are calling. Long distance calling must be made using a calling card or by calling collect. To make a long distance call, dial "81" then "0" plus the area code and number you are calling. To make a call within the hospital, just dial the 4-digit extension.
To avoid disturbing our patients, incoming calls to the switchboard are not put through to patients' rooms before 7 a.m. or after 9 p.m. Urgent calls during these hours will be put through to the nurses' station.
Meals
In keeping with our goal to off er the highest level of care, Food Services is pleased to offer Room Service Dining to our patients. If a patient cannot place their own order, we would prefer that a family member assist. However, your nurse can help as well.
Our clinical staff has a check system in place to ensure that all patients receive appropriate meals. If you are on a modified or restricted diet, some food items may not be appropriate. Our Room Service Associate can be reached by dialing 123 and can help you with your selections.
Cable Television with bedside controls are provided for all patients at no extra charge. Ask your nurse for instructions.
It is important for our patients to understand what their caregivers are saying in order to be a partner in health. Interpreters are available for patients who speak a language other than English or who use sign language. The patient's nurse can be of assistance in getting an interpreter.
There are several items on our Hobby Cart that can help you pass the time including magazines, games, and crafts. A volunteer will bring the cart by your room daily or you can call the Guest Relations Representative at ext. 4142.
Notary Publics are available at no charge if you need a document notarized. Your nurse can help make these arrangements for you. Daily newspapers are available in each nursing unit free of charge (ask your nurse). For extra copies, a newspaper machine is located in the main lobby. Mail is delivered to patient rooms twice daily through the week. After you are discharged, any of your mail sent to the hospital will be forwarded to your home address. Flowers are delivered to your room by either a volunteer or the florist. |
