McCain Cardiovascular Lab

TAMC's Heart Health TeamTAMC's Heart Health Team now provides some of the most advanced diagnostic testing and treatment of heart disease, right here close to home. Our experienced team provides a variety of cardiac services never offered before in northern Maine, saving patients and their families the time and expense of having to travel to Bangor or further for much needed heart care. From diagnosis to treatment to rehabilitation, our latest generation of technically advanced equipment provides us with the information to give you the best quality of life.

Located just off the main corridor at A.R. Gould Memorial Hospital in Presque Isle, TAMC's McCain Cardiovascular Lab offers patients convenient accessibility to services that once required at least a six hour roundtrip drive and expenses including transportation, meals, time away from work, and occasionally lodging. "My wife and I are so thankful that we didn't have to travel to Bangor, especially in the unpredictable winter weather," said William O'Clair of Ashland. O'Clair, who has been a patient at Eastern Maine Medical Center in the past, recently had a cardiac catheterization at TAMC. "I was very comfortable here. The staff was wonderful, my privacy was maintained, and the recovery process took a lot less time," said O'Clair, who also noted that several of his family members who live locally were able to be with him immediately before and after the procedure. Annually, some 400 County patients will benefit from being able to have a cardiac catheterization close to home.

The lab, opened in October 2002, was constructed as part of the center's current $16.3 million building project. It is a remarkable state-of-the-art facility with the very latest in technology and equipment. Cardiac catheterizations, angiograms, and other cardiac and vascular related procedures are performed in the lab under the direction of Dr. Parminder Pal Singh, Cardiologist. "We are able to provide the same high quality services here that you would find in much larger hospitals in urban areas of the United States," said Dr. Singh.

Services performed in the lab include: right and left heart catheterizations and angiograms; transesophogeal echocardiograms; pulmonary, renal, and peripheral vessel angiograms; peripheral artery stents; angioplasty; Greenfield Filter insertions; and soon, permanent pacemaker insertions.
